This report looks at the cybersecurity industry globally. Cybersecurity as an industry involves the design, development, and use of encryption software that can provide protection to a range of information technology systems and devices. The report talks about the overall market size, expected growth rates as well current trends driving the growth in the industry. Companies can also be categorized as core and non-core, the former being those that exclusively engage in cybersecurity and those for which cybersecurity is just one part of their overall product or service offering. The scope of this report extends to core cybersecurity companies, however, to provide a broad view of the industry and the companies operating therein only, it examines companies that fall into all the above categories.

Report Summary

Cybersecurity focuses on protecting against any unauthorized and unwanted access to computers, networks, programs, and data. With the advent of digitization, the amount of data being generated has grown in leaps and bounds. Governments, corporations, and individuals collect, process, and store vast amounts of confidential information and transmit that data across networks.

Cyberthreats have become one of the top ten global risks today, and among the most likely high-impact risks, according to the World Economic Forum. A risk of not having a specific threat detection and response system in place could lead to a potential breach that could have serious impact on revenue. Many organizations have now realized this and are actively allocating a cybersecurity budget for their firms.

Cyberthreats originate from number of sources including hostile governments, terrorist groups, malicious intruders and insiders, among others. In the past few years, there has been an increase in cyberattacks of unprecedented sophistication. The attacks are growing in sophistication. Malware, spam and phishing remain the most frequent method of attack.

The growth of Internet of Things (IoT) has raised the threat of cyberattack to a whole new level. According to IoT Analytics, the total installed base of IoT devices is projected to reach 27 billion by 2025, implying nearly 4 IoT devices per person. The consumer segment is likely to account for the largest pie of the installed base. This was echoed by Statista which also estimates ~30.9 billion IoT devices by 2025, more than double the estimated 13.8 billion units in 2021.

Enterprises across the world are recognizing cybersecurity as a key area of investment and are allocating greater budget towards the same. Despite the higher spending by corporations on cybersecurity solutions, many still remain underinvested and underprepared. They are under constant attack from increasingly sophisticated criminals.
